Actor Mona Singh has hinted at a new creative direction in her career, expressing a strong desire to explore more layered and unconventional roles, including negative characters.
The actor is currently enjoying a prolific phase, with multiple projects lined up across formats. Her recent and upcoming works include Happy Patel, Border 2, Kohrra Season 2, Subedaar, and Maa Ka Sum, each reflecting a different facet of her performance range. The consistent flow of releases has placed her among the more active performers this year, with audiences and critics noting her versatility.
Reflecting on her journey and evolving choices, Mona Singh spoke about breaking away from her long-held on-screen image. She said, “I am very grateful that now that the time has come, the industry is giving me all these opportunities. And I think the tough call was that the relatable girl, the moral compass, the good girl image, to step out of that, to step away from that.”
She further revealed that this shift has been a conscious and patient decision. “So 90% of the time I said no to shows and movies, where I felt that there wouldn't be growth in this. So, let's wait, let's wait. So instead of waiting for the next script, I have waited for the right script,” she added. Opening up about her readiness to take on more complex characters, Singh said, “And now I think in my 40s I am ready to explore even a negative character, grey character. I want to do it. Why not? We women can do anything.”
As she enters this new phase, Mona Singh appears focused on prioritising meaningful storytelling and character-driven performances over volume, signalling a shift that could redefine her screen presence in the coming years.
