Kajol recalls spooky experience at Ramoji Film City; says, “It is one of the most haunted places in the world”

Kajol said that the place gave her an unsettling feeling, which made it difficult for her to sleep.

While promoting her upcoming horror movie Maa, actress Kajol recounted a spine-chilling experience that's now gaining attention online. Recalling past filming memories, the Bollywood star mentioned Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad—one of the world's largest studio complexes—as a location she genuinely believes is haunted.

In an interview with Galatta India, Kajol revealed, “I’ve shot at places that made me feel uneasy. I couldn’t sleep. Ramoji Film City, to me, is one of the most haunted places in the world,” noting that although she hasn’t encountered any ghosts herself, the unsettling atmosphere left a deep impression on her.

Kajol’s comments quickly sparked buzz on social media, particularly among Hyderabad residents and Telugu cinema enthusiasts. While some appreciated her candidness, others were not as receptive. One user on X accused her of making a “false claim,” and many others outright rejected the idea of the location being haunted.

One user remarked, “Kajol calling Ramoji Film City the most haunted place in the world is an insult to Asia’s, if not the world’s, largest film studio—driven by jealousy over Hindi cinema’s decline from its former glory.” Others interpreted her comment as a veiled jab at the Telugu film industry, highlighting that major blockbusters like Baahubali, Pushpa, and RRR were shot there without any such experiences.

Meanwhile, a portion of fans sided with Kajol, recalling past incidents and reports that have long fuelled speculation about paranormal activity at Ramoji Film City.

Despite the criticism, Kajol isn’t the first celebrity to share eerie experiences at Ramoji Film City. In the past, stars like Taapsee Pannu, filmmaker Ravi Babu, Raashi Khanna, and director Sundar C have also spoken about the studio’s unsettling aura. Long-standing urban legends suggest that the complex was built over the graves of Nizam-era soldiers, a claim that has kept ghost stories surrounding the site alive for decades.

As the debate over Ramoji Film City’s paranormal reputation rages on, Kajol’s remarks have undeniably reignited public fascination with its age-old legends—perfectly timed with the upcoming release of Maa, set to hit theatres on June 27.
