Actor Janhvi Kapoor made her much-anticipated debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 20, before the world premiere of her upcoming film Homebound. For her red carpet appearance, Kapoor embraced Indian craftsmanship by wearing a custom ensemble designed by Tarun Tahiliani and styled by Rhea Kapoor.

The actor’s look seamlessly blended heritage and haute couture. Janhvi donned a soft blush-toned skirt and corset ensemble, crafted from handwoven real tissue fabric sourced from Benares. The outfit’s surface featured a distinctive hand-crushed technique, lending it both depth and texture. A signature Tarun Tahiliani drape added a sculptural fluidity to the silhouette, while the raw, uncut hem was left intentionally untouched, celebrating the authenticity of the weave.

She complemented the ensemble with classic old-world elegance — her makeup was kept minimal with softly defined eyes, pink-hued lips, and radiant skin. Her hair was styled in a low bun, draped in sheer pleated fabric matching her outfit, evoking a sense of vintage romance. Layers of pearl necklaces and a statement diamond pendant completed the look, adding a regal touch to her first Cannes outing.

Sharing images from the red carpet, designer Tarun Tahiliani described the creation on Instagram as “an intentional ode to the authenticity of the weave.”

Janhvi walked the red carpet alongside her Homebound co-stars Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, as well as director Neeraj Ghaywan and producer Karan Johar. The film tells the story of two friends from a small village in North India whose bond is tested when they enter the police force.

Homebound was screened under the Un Certain Regard section at the festival, a category known for spotlighting unique storytelling voices. Acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorsese has joined the project as its executive producer. The film is backed by Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra, with Marijke de Souza and Melita Toscan du Plantier serving as co-producers.
