In a year crowded with large-scale entertainers, Dhurandhar storms ahead as the massiest film of 2025, due to its star power, thundering music and a story built to thrill audiences across the board. From its first announcement, the film carried an air of swagger, and once the promotional material kept releasing, the excitement has kept soaring higher.

One of the film’s biggest draws is its stellar ensemble cast, carefully assembled to maximise on-screen charisma and impact. Each performer, from the lead hero Ranveer Singh to the supporting line-up comprising of R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna and Sanjay Dutt, contributes to the film’s high-voltage energy.
Complementing the star cast is Dhurandhar’s powerful soundtrack, which has already generated buzz for its heavy beats, anthemic hooks and festival-ready appeal. The track ‘Ishq Jalakar – Kaarvan’ has become like an anthem in no time. The dance number ‘Shararat’ is also gaining appreciation. On top of that, there is a romantic track ‘Gehra Hua’, which is way different than the other songs. The background score of the film, which is heard in the trailer, is also expected to elevate a lot of intense sequences in the film.
At the heart of it all lies a story that keeps you on the edge about an undercover Indian spy. While Dhurandhar embraces the familiar grammar of mass cinema, it does so with sharper writing and stronger narrative intent. It’s a film that understands what its audience craves: grand moments, memorable dialogues and a storyline that leaves a lasting impression.
With its blend of star power, musical intensity and robust storytelling, Dhurandhar has a chance of being the ultimate crowd-pleaser of the year.
Veteran trade analyst Taran Adarsh believes that when it comes to action films, Dhurandhar will be a massy fare. “If you're looking at action, then yes, it comes to that massy, hardcore action genre,” he said. “But there have been other massive films also this year. There was a comedy entertainer called Houseful 5, there was Baaghi 4, which was again an action film, and then there were other films also which came in. So, a massy film in the sense of very hardcore action, violence, yes, Dhurandhar seems like that. Also, the cast is stellar. It has a very huge and extremely talented names in the supporting cast. So one is looking forward to it.”
He believes that the film can be Ranveer Singh’s big ticket to go a few steps ahead as far as stardom is concerned. “One is looking forward to it also because Ranveer Singh is in a very different role. He's a very fine actor. And Dhurandar is a ticket for him to do so. Because Dhurandar has everything going for it in its favour; it's got a huge budget, it's directed by a very talented director, who has a super successful film behind him (Uri: The Surgical Strike). And at the same time, it's a massive scale that he's looking at. And the release date is also appropriate,” he said.
Adarsh also is certain that if the film is accepted by the audience, it can score big numbers. “If the content clicks, then I think sky's the limit,” he said. “Because hardcore action masala films always work big time, with not just the city audience.”
Veteran trade analyst Atul Mohan also echoes the same sentiment. “If the content appeals, then the sky is the limit. If the content is good, it will give rise to positive word-of-mouth, people will get curious and more and more people will come to the theatres. Anything can happen in today’s times when box office collections are reaching new heights,” he said.
But Adarsh also added that merely action scenes are not enough for an action film to work. “I would also like to add that action has to be interwoven with strong emotions. Action for the heck of it will never work. If you see two years ago, exactly at the same time, we had a film called Animal. And it was a very violent film. It opened the doors for other filmmakers to make those kind of films. That was one of the first ones that we had, so violent.”
He added, “But at the same time, if you ask me what is Animal, I would say, it is basically an emotional story between a father and a son, with solid music. It had some great music. ‘Papa Meri Jaan’ is a very melodic haunting track. It still lingers in your memory. Similarly, in Dhurandhar, you have a Qawali and you have the other song. But I hope it clicks in a big way in terms of emotions also. If the emotions strike a chord, then action falls into place. Then everything looks nice. Because somewhere the emotions have to connect with the audience.”
Coming to the emotions, some scenes of torture in the trailer did make the audience emotional. Atul Mohan believes that it is necessary to show such bold visuals. “Until you show it this way, how will people understand how our neighbouring country tortures our people? It is not that if they catch us, they will show hospitality. They will obviously torture. There are times when we show those things in a soft way. But now times are changing, so we should show the reality as well. Now, sugar-coating won’t do,” he said.
He also feels that music plays a big role in the success of a mainstream Hindi film and said that the ‘Ishq Jalakar – Kaarvan’ has worked. “If you look at all hit movies, you would realize that songs are a very important factor. Somewhere, we started ignoring this factor. There was a time when the music was one of the biggest contributors for a film,” he said.
Adarsh also pointed out that Dhurandhar is a rare film to be blessed with such fine names in the ensemble cast. “It also has Akshaye Khanna,” he said. “Well, what can one say? He's one of the best actors we have in India. As a critic, I've also told him that he's one of the finest we have in India. I've told him that. Whenever I've interviewed him, I've always called him as one of the finest actors we have in India. And to see him in the kind of range he has is amazing. Sanjay Dutt, again, in a very daring role. There's Madhavan, again, a brilliant actor. There's Arjun Rampal. It's so good to see him after a hiatus. I'm sure he's done web series, he's done films and everything. But to see him in a full-blown entertainer is going to be a treat.”
Speaking on the same point, Atul Mohan added, “We can call this film a multi-starrer. It is also full of action. And such action movies are massy. From the trailer, we have understood that it’s the story of an undercover agent and how he eliminates the enemies in Pakistan.”
