Hollywood star Julia Roberts is all set to uncover the truth behind the Watergate scandal in her upcoming limited series drama Gaslit. Sean Penn looks unrecognisable.
The series, which will air on STARZ from April 24, centers around the “untold stories and forgotten characters” of the major political scandal of the United States in 1970s involving the administration of U.S. President Richard Nixon, according to People publication.
Julia Roberts will be seen as Martha Mitchell, who uncovered President Nixon's involvement in the Watergate scandal, alongside actor Sean Penn, who takes on the role of her husband Attorney General John Mitchell in the upcoming political thriller series.
Despite her party affiliation, Martha, “a big personality with an even bigger mouth”, goes on to expose the truth of scandal, while jeopardizing her husband’s career, causing both the Presidency and her personal life to unravel.
Gaslit is based on the first season of Slate's hit podcast Slow Burn. The show is created by Robbie Pickering who executive produces alongside Esmail, Julia Roberts, director Matt Ross, Chad Hamilton, Gabriel Roth and Josh Levin. Co-executive producers include Lisa Gillan and Marisa Yeres Gill. Leon Neyfakh, who created the podcast, also consulted on the project.
The show also stars Dan Stevens as John Dean, Betty Gilpin as Mo Dean, Shea Whigham as G. Gordon Liddy and Darby Camp as Marty Mitchell.
