EXCLUSIVE: Shaan recalls the confusion during the recording of ‘Chand Sifarish’ from Fanaa : Bollywood News

Filmmaker Kunal Kohli’s Fanaa was an unusual love story, which received thumbs up from the audience. The film, which starred Aamir Khan and Kajol in lead roles, is also known for its music, which was given by the iconic pair of Jatin-Lalit. One song from the film that stood out was ‘Chand Sifarish,’ which was crooned by Shaan.

Going down memory lane about that song in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Hungama, Shaan said, “It was a big struggle to sing that song. But if we remove this one song from my portfolio, only almost 60 percent will remain. This song was a huge turning point for me.”

There is also a story of confusion attached to this track. During the rehearsals, Shaan had sung ‘Mere Haath Mein,’ which was the film’s title song. However, ‘Chand Sifarish’ also featured the film’s title Fanaa, hence that too is the film’s title track. So, when Lalit Pandit called Shaan to record the title song of Fanaa, he felt that he was required to sing ‘Mere Haath Mein’. When he reached the studio, he was stunned to know that he had to sing a different song called ‘Chand Sifarish.’

Shaan recalled, “I was like, ‘That was a wonderful song. What is this one? This was also Fanaa’s title track. I did sing the song, but my heart was with the other song (Mere Haath Mein). But then this song too became a superhit from this film.”

But Shaan wasn’t aware when Fanaa and his song became a rage. “Actually, when the film had released, I was on a tour to the US,” he said. “So, I didn’t realize that the movie became such a big hit along with the song. Over there, people started demanding ‘Chand Sifarish.’” Funnily, Shaan couldn’t instantly remember which song they were referring to, until later.
