Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar are set to reunite after 14 years with their upcoming horror comedy Bhooth Bangla, scheduled for release on April 10. As part of the film’s promotions, the duo recently spoke to Bollywood Hungama and reflected on their earlier collaborations, including the now widely celebrated comedy Hera Pheri.
During the conversation, Priyadarshan revealed that he had been completely confident about Hera Pheri working with audiences at the time of its release, even though such situational humour was not very common in Hindi cinema then.
Priyadarshan says he was confident about Hera Pheri from the beginning
Responding to a question about whether the team anticipated the film’s long-term popularity and later cult status, Akshay Kumar admitted he did not foresee its impact. Priyadarshan, however, said he felt strongly about the film’s potential even during production.
He said, “I was very confident. You know why I was very confident? I was thinking of something, because before that I was doing Gardish, Virasat, this kind of films I was doing. Suddenly when I made Hera Pheri, I was very sure about the film, because there was a huge scarcity for that kind of humor, situational humor.”
The filmmaker explained that his experience working with similar storytelling styles in South Indian cinema also shaped his confidence.
“I was successful in the South doing situational humor. So I was thinking that this is something, 100% it's going to work. It is not for South or North India, because people's taste is the same. I have never found a difference. I have worked in five languages. I have never found any difference in the audience taste all over India,” he added.
