EXCLUSIVE: Manoj Bajpayee on how The Family Man 2 is different from season 1 – “We can’t be carrying the same baggage onto the next one”

The Family Man was released in 2019 on Amazon Prime Video and got immense popularity for its storyline, its characters and exceptional performances of the actors. The show created quite a buzz after its release and the audiences were eagerly waiting for the release of its second season. Now, the second season is all set to release on June 4 and yesterday the trailer for the show unveiled.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, the star cast of the web series Manoj Bajpayee, Samantha Akkineni, Priyamani, Aparna Purohit, creators Raj & DK got candid about what to expect in season 2. When asked how is season 2 different from season 1 and asked Priyamani about the scene where one knew the English better and the other persona googled it, she revealed that she burst into laughter doing it.

“When we were shooting that particular scene you are talking about, the moment we read the scene, we burst out into laughter,” she said. Furthermore, she said, “When you will watch the entire scene, entire season 2, it's nothing like season 1. There's a lot more drama added, there are lot more sentiments in the series and the scenes we have done together have got a lot more action. Everything all together makes it different from season 1.”

Later in the chat, Manoj Bajpayee also spoke at a length about the same and revealed, “You know the best thing about season 2 that it was like the entire bible was ready by the time. And by the time season 1 started streaming, we were already shooting in Chennai. So, there was no, in that way, major impact on season 2 of season 1. Somewhere, my mind as a creative person was actually doing the math in my own mind that if your season 2 is ready without any impact and effect of the first one and it is away from the influence of the first one, then maybe you stay true to the story or not try to alter or change anything or try to impress anyone because you've done the same in the first season.”

He further added, “I think we should always consciously just follow the story. We should treat all the season very different. We can't be carrying the same baggage onto the next one. We can't. If we do that we’ll eventually fail because when the audience is watching it, they are watching it whatever you are showing it to them and if your intention is not pure, then it never succeeds. If you are listening to a story, they'll listen to you, they'll watch you and if you are trying to replicate yourself they will immediately catch you. I think this is a great learning that I have had when we were shooting for season 2, while the season 1 was started streaming.”

The award-winning Amazon Original Series marks the digital debut of South superstar Samantha Akkineni who joins the stellar cast including Padma Shree recipient Manoj Bajpayee, Priyamani, along with incredible talent from across India, including Sharib Hashmi, Seema Biswas, Darshan Kumar, Sharad Kelkar, Sunny Hinduja, Shreya Dhanwantary, Shahab Ali, Vedant Sinha and Mahek Thakur. The show also features incredible cast from Tamil cinema, including Mime Gopi, Ravindra Vijay, Devadarshini Chetan, Anandsami and N. Alagamperumal.
