Khushaal Pawaar, known for his funny, relatable and clean content on Instagram, took a significant step recently with his short film, Khushiyan Swati Ki Koshish Raju Ki. Co-starring Rispa Panda and Sameeksha Takke, it features Khushaal as lead actor, writer, music composer, lyricist, and singer! In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Khushaal Pawaar spoke about his short film and his stint as an actor in Bollywood films. Khushal has worked in memorable films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015), Judwaa 2 (2017), Baaghi 2 (2018) etc.
When asked if Khushaal had any more films in the pipeline, he replied, “I am auditioning. Sadly, I am not getting the role that I desire. If the role is interesting, it's very small and if it’s a big role, it’s not interesting. However, I don’t shy away from auditioning. Even if I am not convinced, I still test; in case they like me, I can discuss with the team and director if the role can be made even more substantial.”
Khushaal Pawaar continued, “Recently, I auditioned for a big Dharma film. I also met the director. Sadly, as it often happens that at the end moment, things didn’t materialize. Many believe that if you have a lot of followers, you can bag a role. However, that’s not true. By that logic, so many would have been lead actors!”
Khushaal Pawaar then opened up about his experience of working on Judwaa 2, “I had a very wonderful interaction with Varun Dhawan on the sets of that film. We were waiting in the vanity van. He said, ‘The challenge for a true actor is to understand what he can do differently in his new film compared to his previous performance, especially if the role is in a similar space’. That day, I realised that getting work is not that of a challenge. The bigger challenge is to surprise the audience. You might bag 3-4 films, but if you don’t have the calibre, how will you surprise your audience or how will you make them fall in love with your character every time?”
Khushaal Pawaar added, “The director is looking at narrating the script in hand. But the actor needs to ensure that he adds a certain nuance to his part while ensuring that it aligns with the vision of the director. However, at times, you just need to follow the director or the story.”
He then stated, “We are living in times where individuality is also important. Like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui etc., have distinct styles. For them to maintain these styles and yet be in their respective characters is a real challenge. It’s a real blessing if you can align with the director’s vision and you can also maintain the relationship you have with your audience on an individual level. That for me was a big lesson.”
