Anil Sharma, the director of Gadar 2, is currently enjoying a surge of triumph due to the film's remarkable embrace from viewers. Despite encountering a blend of reviews from critics, the movie has achieved remarkable success in terms of box office performance. During a recent conversation, the director discussed various aspects of the film, including his insights on Ameesha Patel, one of the actors, and her approach-related challenges.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Anil Sharma expressed that for the character of Sakeena, he aimed to find an individual with a countenance resembling the moon. Although Ameesha Patel was an apt fit appearance-wise, he mentioned that they had identified another young woman who exhibited stronger acting skills for the role. Anil said, “Chaand jaisa chehra chahiye tha. Acting mein thodi weak thi. Maine Nitin Keni (producer) sahab se kaha, ‘suit to mujhe ye kar rahi hai lekin ek dusri ladki hai wo better actor hai.’ Magar yeh personality-wise, ameer ghar ki ladki hai to wo iske andar wo baat hai, wo attitude hai. (I wanted an actress with a face like the moon. She was weak at acting. I told Nitin Keni that another girl we’d shortlisted was a better actor. Ameesha had the personality of someone who hails from a rich family, and she has an attitude).”

Ahead of the launch of Gadar 2, Ameesha had raised concerns about Anil Sharma allegedly not ensuring appropriate compensation for makeup artists, technicians, and costume designers. In reference to Ameesha, the director of Gadar 2 acknowledged previous instances of disagreements with her. He highlighted that even during the filming of the original Gadar in 2001, clashes between them had arisen.

Anil further added, “Woh bade ghar ki bitiya hai, unke mizaaj thode bade hain, magar dil ki buri nahi hain, dil ki achi hain. Bade ghar ki beti jo hoti hai kabhi kabhi tunakmizaaji aa jaati hai. Hum log chote ghar ke log hain. Hum log pyaar mohabbat se rehte hain. Woh bhi rehti hain, but thoda sa attitude, ek ada hai unme jo kabhi kabhi tedhi-medhi ho jaati hai, lekin insaan achi hain (She hails from a big family, and she carries that attitude around with her. I’m a simple person, I believe in living with love. She does, too, but sometimes her attitude gets in the way. But she is a kind person otherwise).”

Gadar 2 is the sequel to the 2001 blockbuster film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The film stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma. It is directed by Anil Sharma and produced by Zee Studios.
