Chitrangda is currently earning praise for her layered and restrained performance in the film Raat Akeli Hai, which premiered on December 19. Set against the backdrop of a powerful, family-run media house, the narrative explores themes of power, privilege, morality, and truth, weaving a tense story that reflects uncomfortable social realities.

The Netflix release features a strong ensemble cast including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rajat Kapoor, Radhika Apte, Deepti Naval, Revathi, Sanjay Kapoor, alongside Chitrangda Singh. With its intense storytelling and sharp social commentary, the film has sparked conversations among both audiences and critics.

Speaking about her character, Chitrangda explained that Meera is a woman burdened by responsibility and inner conflict. “Meera is the oldest daughter, and she runs the family’s media house. The responsibilities are immense. When you meet her in the film, she’s already living a broken kind of life. Then a tragedy strikes the family, and she finds herself caught between overwhelming emotions,” she shared.

She further elaborated on Meera’s moral struggle, especially in the context of power and influence. “Psychologically, you reach a point where you don’t know how morally correct you can be—or how morally correct you’re willing to be. How far will you go to save your people? And because it’s a media house, there’s enormous power—you can distort the truth.”

Chitrangda also highlighted how the film delves into larger ethical questions and social hierarchies. “There’s social commentary about how people get away—the rich, the privileged. Meera questions how morally corrupt she’s willing to become. How much of your conscience are you ready to kill in order to find peace? That’s what the character grapples with,” she said.

Crediting the writing for shaping such a nuanced role, the actor added, “There’s a lot of social commentary in the film. Smita has written Meera as a very interesting character, and I really felt drawn to her complexity. The whole journey is very engaging.”

Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders marks another compelling collaboration between director Honey Trehan and a cast known for performance-driven cinema. With its exploration of media influence, moral compromise, and the cost of power, the film stands out as a thought-provoking addition to Netflix’s December slate, with Chitrangda Singh’s portrayal of Meera emerging as one of its key highlights.
