Actor Divya Dutta will headline Chiraiya, a new original series on JioHotstar that examines the deeply entrenched belief that marriage implies permanent consent. The show, directed by Shashant Shah and produced by SVF Entertainment, brings together an ensemble cast including Sanjay Mishra, Siddharth Shaw, Prasanna Bisht, Faisal Rashid, Tinnu Anand, and Sarita Joshi, among others.
The makers unveiled the teaser of the series on Thursday, positioning the show as a social drama that confronts a question often left unspoken within families and communities: whether forced intimacy within marriage can be dismissed as acceptable simply because of the relationship. At its core, Chiraiya argues that marriage does not erase the need for consent and that silence cannot be equated with agreement.
Speaking about the project, Divya Dutta said, “Chiraiya is not just a story; it is a reflection of realities we often choose not to confront. While preparing for this role, I found myself thinking about how frequently silence is mistaken for acceptance and sacrifice is romanticised. This series dares to question that silence.”
With its socially focused theme and character-driven narrative, Chiraiya aims to spark conversation around marital consent and gendered expectations within households. The series is set to stream soon on JioHotstar.
