Director Sachin Pathak’s web series Rangbaaz, which stars Viineet Kumar Siingh, Saqib Saleem and Aakanksha Singh and tackles Bihar politics, is now converted into a film. Interestingly, the move arrives just when Bihar politics is in the news with the state elections just getting over. Pathak spoke about this and more in an interview with us.
With Bihar elections just ending, your series Rangbaaz: The Bihar Chapter on the state’s politics seems more relevant than ever
As far as Bihar politics is concerned, the series events are just a coincidence, sir. It’s based on true events but I have fictionalised events as per the requirements of the scripts. Also, we made this series three years back.
Are you from Bihar?
No, I am not Bihari. I am Maharashtrian. But for the story, we have done ample research and as a director just needed to focus on storytelling. Siddharth Mishra sir has written very tight screenplay. So, (I) just tried my best to execute that on screen.
Rangbaaz: The Bihar Chapter is based on Siwan’s gangster turned politician Mohammad Shahabuddin? Were there any protests?
As said earlier, it is based on true events but not real portrait on any real characters, so there were no such kind of opposition from anyone that I know of. It is not possible to make a real-life biopic until you are making biography of a person and your series is fictional.
Viineet Kumar Siingh is excellent as the gangster-politician
Yes, Vineet is an excellent actor as well as human being to work with and I am so grateful to get such a wonderful cast to work with. I am blessed to have such good actors always.
Are you happy with your series turned into a feature film?
Yeah, it’s a new effort from the team. This film has a different feel than the series for sure. I will be happy if everyone watches both.
