Deepika Padukone has been recognized as a disruptor for 2024 by the esteemed publication Deadline. This recognition places her amongst a select group of influential figures who are reshaping the global entertainment landscape. Notably, Deepika is the sole Indian star on this year's list, sharing the spotlight with Hollywood heavyweights like Eva Longoria and Uma Thurman.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Deepika delved into her cinematic journey, reflecting on her experiences auditioning for Hollywood roles. Having made her Hollywood debut opposite Vin Diesel in 2017's xXx: Return Of Xander Cage, she candidly admitted, “A decade ago, venturing into the West and auditioning was a completely new experience for me. In India, auditions weren't the norm for me. I wasn't formally trained, and there were no fancy acting schools on my resume – everything I've learned has been through practical experience on set.”

This interview sheds light on the contrasting work environments between Hollywood and Bollywood. Discussing her upcoming untitled cross-cultural rom-com under Ka Productions, Deepika observed, “The systems function very differently in each industry. The positive aspect is the shrinking world; there's a greater sense of global unity, and the focus is truly on captivating storytelling. Whether it's working in Sweden or Bosnia, the driving force is the creation of impactful narratives that resonate with audiences worldwide.”

Padukone highlights a crucial shift in global entertainment. “While India hasn't witnessed a drastic change in its production methods or storytelling style, we've always had captivating narratives to offer. What has truly transformed is the international openness to Eastern content, particularly Indian cinema. The world is finally recognizing that there's a vibrant entertainment scene beyond America.”

Beyond her impactful statements, Deepika's work speaks volumes. Her recent Bollywood outing was the action-packed Fighter alongside Hrithik Roshan. But her upcoming projects promise an even more diverse slate. She'll be starring in the futuristic sci-fi film Kalki 2898 - AD, sharing the screen with powerhouses like Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. Additionally, she's set to reprise the lead role in the Hindi remake of The Intern, again collaborating with the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. Furthermore, she'll be seen in Singham Again, keeping the action genre alive.
