Armaan Malik has revealed that Bollywood superstar Salman Khan played a pivotal role in his early career, not only by giving him his big break but also by motivating him to shed 10-15 kilograms for a music-video appearance. The story emerged during a recent chat with filmmaker Farah Khan.

Malik shared that at the age of 16 he had recorded a pop album, describing his ambition, “I had the desire to become India’s Justin Bieber.” He recounts that he showed the album to Salman Khan, who “loved two of my tracks” and opted to incorporate them into his film Jai Ho. “Salman bhai said that I should not release this album because he wanted to use 1-2 songs for his [upcoming] film Jai Ho,” Armaan said.
It was further revealed that Salman suggested Armaan Malik and his brother Amaal Malik appear shirtless in the music video, a condition that triggered the intense transformation. “He said we would be shirtless, but I told him that would not be possible,” Malik recalled. “We both were healthy kids.” What followed was a “rigorous dance and workout schedule” imposed by Salman Khan, resulting in Malik losing between 10–15 kgs. “I lost 10-15 kgs,” he told Farah Khan.
Malik later revealed that the shirtless-video directive was more of a rhetorical push than a literal demand. “But later, he explained that it was a joke. ‘Yeh tujhe daraane ke liye tha,’” Malik said.
Expressing gratitude, Malik acknowledged Salman Khan’s influence in launching his career. “He was the one who discovered my talent and brought it to the audience’s attention,” Malik told The Indian Express in a 2016 interview, cited in the article.
This candid admission offers a behind-the-scenes look at how a major Bollywood star can shape the trajectory of a rising talent not simply by providing an opportunity, but by challenging him to physically and mentally transform for the role.
