Punjabi music sensation AP Dhillon recently opened up about why he has consistently turned down offers to sing Bollywood songs, citing the exploitation of artists and their music rights. Speaking on the SMTV YouTube channel, Dhillon said, "I'll tell you why I've never done a Bollywood song yet. It's only because I care for my people. It's not about Bollywood; it's about setting an example. I told them I'm happy to do a song, but they must first change the way they do business. They exploit the song and the artist for their own profit".
He revealed that several huge Bollywood actors had approached him wanting his music for their films. "I made the song; we even had the scene in mind. But they want to own the song, they want the rights to the song, the remix rights, they want to exploit. That's not correct," he said firmly. Dhillon explained that he refused such deals not just for himself but to protect junior artists from losing their source of income and being exploited similarly. "If I do it, then junior artists will also have to do it, and I don't want them to," he stated.
Despite his stance on Bollywood playback singing, Dhillon has collaborated with Bollywood stars Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt on one of his previous tracks, ‘Old Money’, which was released in August 2024.
Currently gearing up for his One of One India Tour across eight cities beginning December 5, Dhillon continues to set examples both on and off stage in how artists should value their work and rights.
