Director Mahesh Bhatt brought Malik on board for Tu Meri Poori Kahani, describing the new soundtrack as “hit-back music.” The phrase not only referred to the music’s commercial intent but also symbolized Malik’s return to the industry after controversy.

Apart from allegations of misconduct, he was also involved in a public dispute with his nephew, music composer Amaal Mallik. Amaal had accused him of allegedly sabotaging the career of his brother Daboo Malik, a fellow composer.
