After a shaky start in U.K., VIVAH has finally consolidated its status in its second weekend. Although its business is slowly picking up, what’s heartening is that Sooraj R. Barjatya’s new film has remained rock-steady in its second weekend with a minimal 22% drop [the drop is almost 40%-50% in most cases]. Friday/8th day was £ 10,234, Saturday/9th day £ 24,042 and Sunday/10th day £ 20,564, which clearly indicates that the film is going from strength to strength.
But the real examination begins this week as DHOOM 2 hits the marquee. Will VIVAH stay afloat with steady collections or buckle under pressure, is to be seen.
On the other hand, UMRAO JAAN is a success story in U.K. The film is nearing the £ 400,000 mark, which is incredible for a film that has been rejected in its home country. Yet another surprise success in U.K. is JAAN-E-MANN, which started on a slow note [DON was too big an opposition!] and has almost reached the £ 500,000 mark.
Meanwhile, after KABHI ALVIDA NAA KEHNA, the No. 2 hit in Overseas is DON, which has grossed approx. Rs. 22 crores from U.K. and U.S.A. in 31 days.
Weekend: November 17 – 19, 2006.
