The potentially-crippling stand-off between producer Ekta Kapoor and the real-life Ragini, Delhi girl Deepika, threatens to blow up into a full-blown crisis that could jeopardise the film's release this Friday.
While Deepika who is the source of inspiration for the main character in Ragini MMS has threatened to take legal action against Balaji and Ekta Kapoor if she isn't shown the film prior to its release, Ekta on her part is adamant on not showing the film to Deepika for no other reason except the very basic. Sex!!
According to a source Ekta is apprehensive for no other reason except that the girl would probably freak out if she sees the love-making sequences in Ragini MMS.
Says the source, "Ekta just can't risk it. Not when the film is just days away from release. She feels Deepika will panic when she sees the love-making sequences. How can Ekta risk it? Deepika's panic started when she read an interview of Ekta where the producer said she will reveal the real Ragini's identity on May 5. Deepika became apprehensive when she saw the promos. She thought she will be linked to the sex content of the film." And now Ekta and Balaji are caught in a Catch 22 situation.
Continues the source, "Ekta is damned if she does and damned even if she doesn't. Ekta may be legally coerced into showing the film to Deepika if the release is jeopardized. On the other hand, if Deepika sees the film she may object to the love-making scenes and ask for a stay order. So both ways, the film is in a fix."
Ekta is understandably very pissed off with the turn of events. "Deepika is panicking unnecessarily. Ekta made it clear to her that only 50 percent of real incidents was being used. The rest including the high sexual content, are part of the cinematic component. Now Ekta would rather go with not showing Deepika the film than risk objections from Deepika after she watches the film. It's just five days before release. Ekta can't risk it."
There is no way Ekta will show Ragini MMS to Deepika or anyone close to her. To avoid the content being leaked out, Ekta has cancelled all private screenings of the film this week.
Ekta Kapoor remained unavailable for comment.
