The sudden and dramatic arrest and release on bail in the alleged sexual-molestation case, of filmmaker Subhash Kapoor has left his family and friends shell-shocked. While most actors in Subhash's under-production film Guddu Rangeela chose not to comment on the latest shocking developments, one member of Kapoor's team on condition of anonymity said, "It is unfortunate that this should be happening to someone as peace-loving and controversy-shy as Subhash. After Jolly LLB he has come into his. And we were all looking forward to the quick completion and release of the follow-up film. Unfortunately Guddu Rangeela has been plagued with problems from Day 1."
According to this team member the film lost a clear two months because one of the film's lead Amit Sadh fractured his leg. This, compounded with Subhash Kapoor's legal problems have played havoc with the film's team's morale and energy level.
"We're all trying to put up a brave front. And we've shot some fantastic stuff. But the shadow of the charges against Subhash hangs over the project. No one speaks about it. But it's like a pain that one can ignore but refuses to go away," says a member of the Guddu Rangeela team.
Kapoor's arrest and release on Monday stunned the unit.
"However, Kapoor seemed calm. His wife has chosen to support him through this ordeal right to the end. On Monday when the arrest happened she was by his side putting up a brave front," says a friend.
While Subhash Kapoor refrained from speaking about the arrest and release, he did speak to me about the delay and the locational problems faced by Guddu Rangeela because of the delay.
Says Kapoor, "We had to take two months' break. We also had to shift some portions of the shooting from Punjab to Satara since May and June get very warm in North India. There are a few bits that still need to be shot in Chandigarh."
Setting aside what looks like a long and painful legal battle to prove his innocence in the sexual molestation case, Subhash Kapoor resumes the last schedule of Guddu Rangeela on Thursday.
