Srk unplugged:

en Bollywood News Srk unplugged:

He's currently recuperating after the surgery he underwent in London. But the magnetic smile and the zeal to utilise every minute of the day for qualitative use are intact. Shah Rukh Khan, referred to as the King Khan by the Mumbai media, hasn't changed one bit despite achieving super-stardom. Without doubt the wittiest of all actors I've known, Shah Rukh has a sharp one-liner for every occasion. Like, when we meet at the get-together hosted by the Khan to mark the music release of his latest production CHALTE CHALTE, the first thing he tells me is, Hey, now you're sporting the Devdas look! [since I'm sporting a stubble]. SRK has lost weight, but he's looking radiant. In fact, he actually passes off as a university student. That's what I'm playing in MAIN HOON NAA, he laughs as this writer compliments him after watching the songs. He's at his feet performing numerous jobs at one go. After the party ends, I've to rush for the dubbing of CHALTE CHALTE. We're coming out with the copy for the censors. Then we start dealing with the distributors. I'm also watching 1.30 hours' footage of MAIN HOON NAA today, he avers. The strategy for CHALTE CHALTE has been different from the ones adopted during his previous home-productions, PHIR BHI DIL HAIN HINDUSTANI and ASOKA. During P.B.D.H.H., the distributors came to us with the money even before the film was completed. For ASOKA, we decided to sell the film at a meagre price [Rs. 1 crore per major territory], he states. The pricing of CHALTE CHALTE will be slightly higher than ASOKA, but lower than P.B.D.H.H. We've decided to price the film at Rs. 1.80 crores for Mumbai. Delhi-U.P. would be less comparatively [businesswise, DUP is considered to be 80% of Mumbai territory]. The price would vary for the other circuits. We don't want to overprice the film for Mumbai, though we can, SRK divulges. That's true! SRK's compny Dreamz Unlimited has gone in for a co-production with UTV for CHALTE CHALTE. That's because Dreamz doesn't have money to make films (laughs). We've incurred losses in our previous ventures and it was kind of UTV to come forward and lend us a helping hand, he says. On the acting front, SRK has decided to experiment with his roles henceforth. Small incidents/issues will be the subject-base of my forthcoming films. CHALTE CHALTE, for instance, is a simple love story, without the so-called frills. You can't compare it with DEVDAS or BAADSHAH. Ashutosh Gowarikar's SWADES and Karan Johar's KAL HO NA HO are also not 'heavy' films. I'm trying something different now. The new crop of films won't have 'heroic introductions' or that project the protagonist as a larger-than-life persona. He continues in the same breath, CHALTE CHALTE is a simple love story packaged with humour that one identifies with Aziz's films. The humour is not loud, nor is it subtle. Humour has always been an integral part of Mirza's films, be it RAJU BAN GAYA GENTLEMAN or P.B.D.H.H. But CHALTE CHALTE looks at the man-woman relationship mainly. It's something that can be identified by everyone. I feel very close to this character. You can't control something that's happening around the world, but we can start with ourselves, by bringing in more love, affection and sanity in our lives, he says. Actually, SRK has always tried to strike the right balance between meaningful and commercial cinema. If, on one hand, he has worked with Aditya Chopra, Karan Johar and Abbas-Mustan, whose films are targeted at the audience in general, he's simultaneously worked with Ketan Mehta, Aziz Mirza and Kundan Shah, makers who've never bowed down to the dictates of commercial cinema. But times have changed. With the kind of stardom SRK has achieved, will the audience accept their favourite hero breaking from larger-than-life roles? Well, I'm trying something different. Let me try, he smiles. SRK is aiming to release CHALTE CHALTE in June. Everything depends on the strike. But we'd love to come in June. I'm aware, there would be a steady flow of new films that have been held up due to the strike, but that cannot be helped, SRK reveals. Will the baadshah of Bollywood spell magic with the rani [Rani Mukherji], is to be seen!
