Social activist Oscar Rebello assaulted by Mango’s film crew

en Bollywood News Social activist Oscar Rebello assaulted by Mango’s film crew

Oscar Rebello, the well known social activist and former convenor of 'Goa Bachao Abhiyan', was assaulted by the bouncers of the film unit of Mango, that's being produced by Kaleidoscope Entertainment Private Limited and owned by Bobby Bedi.

The incident apparently occurred when Oscar, after parking his car, was crossing the road to walk to his clinic when the film unit's bouncer grabbed him from behind after screaming at him. Even as Rebello was tackling the bouncer, around four more bouncers not just joined them, but also assaulted him and abused him in Konkani. Post that, Rebello called up the Mayor Surendra Furtado and a few councilors, who then arrived with the police, which forced the film crew to quickly wind up their shooting. The police then detained the bouncers, who had fled from the scene initially.

Speaking to a leading newspaper, Rebello said that besides him, the bouncers also manhandled a young lady with an infant in her arms by pushing her. He added that the whole matter was not about him alone, but every pedestrian and their fundamental rights. He added that the government can permit the film shootings to increase the revenues, but definitely not at the cost of the fundamental rights of the common man.

Later, the Panaji Police arrested the five bouncers (who belonged to 'Force Securities' of Mapusa). The irony of the situation is that while reports state that PNF Productions had applied for shooting permission on behalf of Kaleidoscope, the cops said that no NOC was issued by the North Goa Superintendent Of Police Office as it reached Panaji police station.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who has asked for a detailed report on the incident, said that it will be necessary for the bouncers in Goa to register themselves with the government and that their job is defensive protection, not offensive protection. Reacting to this incident, Narendra Sawaikar (BJP's General Secretary) appealed to the Corporation of the City of Panaji, to take suitable action so that such incidents refrain from occurring in the future.
