On Tuesday, 4th of November, the Prince of Wales Prince Charles, who came to India on a 9-day tour, was seen in his new role of a clap boy. He snapped the clapperboard to launch the first shot of Aamir Khan's much-awaited next venture The Rising. On his 20-minute visit to the sets of this film at a 5 star hotel in Mumbai, the Prince showed much curiosity to learn about the story, characterizations and setting of the film. Apart from Aamir, the film stars Rani Mukherjee, Aishwarya Rai and British actor Toby Stephens (Die Another Day) in major roles and will be directed by Ketan Mehta (Maya Memsaab, Mirch Masala, Aar Ya Paar). The Rising is based on the revolution of 1857 when Hindu and Muslim soldiers revolted against the British East India Company, over the issue of gun cartridges being greased with animal fat forbidden by their religions. But the film also showcases the friendly relationship between the Indian and British soldiers. It's expected to release in late 2004. Aamir plays the character of revolutionary Mangal Pandey for which he has grown classic long moustaches. In an interview to Aaj Tak, Aamir professed It's very nice of Prince Charles to come and honor the occasion and give us his good wishes for the film. He also said that the Prince would surely be aware of details about the period in which the film is set. Also he added that when the commencement of shooting was postponed due to some pre-production work, he suggested to start the shooting on 6th of January, which also happens to be the date when the shooting of Lagaan began in 2000. Perhaps that may prove out to be the lucky factor! Aamir's exclusive interview with Aaj Tak 45 kbps - 80 kbps - 220 kbps
