Besides KUCH NAA KAHO, Abhishek is also keeping his fingers crossed for MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST, produced by Vishal Nihalani and directed by Apoorva Lakhia.
Shot entirely in Jailsalmer, MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST is an acid test for all concerned, right from the makers [both Vishal and Apoorva turn independent with this film] to Abhishek and Lara Dutta, whose future rests on the two movies that are scheduled for release shortly [ANDAAZ, MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST].
Working with Apoorva and Vicky [Vishal Nihalani] was exhilarating, says Abhishek. Apoorva continues, From the stars to the technicians, everyone used to report at 7 every morning. Till evening it was work and only work. After pack-up, it was party time. I believe in working hard and partying harder, says Apoorva, who started his career in the U.S., besides being the first assistant director for LAGAAN and the ready-for-release BOOM [Kaizad Gustad].
Besides a lengthy promo of the film, the media also witnessed three songs from this enterprise and the reaction after the screening was unanimous overwhelming.
Apoorva denies that his film is inspired by LAGAAN. The only similarity between the two films [LAGAAN, MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST] is that both are rural-based and had villages with no electricity. Nothing beyond that, he says.
While ANDAAZ sees Lara playing the girl of today, her next release, MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST, has her enacting a role that is in sharp contrast to her first film. Was it right on her part to accept two contrasting roles so early in her career? Yes, I'm aware that it's a risk, Lara tells me, But the moment I heard the script of MUMBAI SE AAYA MERA DOST, I decided to take it in my fold. It's a challenging role for an actress and I decided to give it a try, she says.
Vishal Nihalani's Rubberband Films plans to produce more path-breaking films in the future. We plan to make small-budget films along with one big-budget fare every year, Vicky divulges.
