Jackky Bhagnani will be seen as a cop in his next titled Mumbai Police

Jackky Bhagnani is still in (his words) “60 percent disbelief 40 percent ecstasy” about the surprise success of his home production. But the celebrations would have to be quickly taken care of. Jackky now goes immediately into rigorous training to play a gritty real-life cop in Roshan Andrews’ Mumbai Police.

The trick for Jackky is double-fold. He not only has to jump from playing a goofy college flunkey in F.A.L.T.U to a hardened no- nonsense law enforcer, he also has to ensure that his portrayal of a cop is different from what a gallery of superstars in Bollywood are playing after Salman Khan in Dabangg.

For those who came in late, Abhishek Bachchan plays a cop in Dum Maaro Dum followed by John Abraham in Force, Ajay Devgn in the Hindi remake of the Telugu hit Singham and Aamir Khan in Reema Kagti‘s film.

Jackky has gone into serious training with the man who has trained many senior cops in the Mumbai police force.

Says the shy actor seriously, “I’m being trained by Elton Menezes who has trained a number of cops including Maharashtra’s commissioner of police D. Shivanandan. Luckily, Elton has been my trainer for sometime now. To convince him to train me for my cop’s role was not difficult.”

The film Mumbai Police about two fearless cops which is currently being shot in Malayalam with Prithviraj and Arya in the lead, will bring to Hindi cinema the Malayalam super-director Roshan Andrrews.

Producer Vashu Bhagnani who wanted to position his son as a versatile actor after F.A.L.T.U rushed to Kerala to grab the remake rights of Mumbai Police.

Says Jackky, “Mumbai Police takes me into a completely different zone from F.A.L.T.U. I’m lucky to be in it. Luckily for me no one can say any more that I’m getting roles just because the producer is my father. The whole journey from a flop actor in my father’s film to success is amazing. It’s still not sunk in.”

There’s no time to sit back and savour success. Jackky has gone into intense training for the cop’s part.

Explains Jackky, “The thing is, there’s a difference between an army man and a cop. Being a cop is not about measured movements. It’s state of mind. I want to play the cop differently from others.”

Jackky will also be spending time with super-cop Shivanandan. “I just want to observe him and other senior police officers at their work place. I think cops are played in one particular way on our films.”
