On the eve of 26 January, 2004 the Indian Republic Day, a unique concert 'Tiranga A salute to the Indian flag' was organized at the Royal Festival Hall in London. The almost packed hall gave a standing ovation to India's five top artistes for their sparkling performances. The artistes included popular Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar who read out specially penned poems on the three colors and the Ashoka Chakra of Indian flag. Other performers included tabla king Ustad Zakir Hussain, santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, leading vocalist Pandit Jasraj and mandolin wizard Vidhwan U Shrinivas. Each of Javed saab's poem were followed by a short musical interpretation by one of the musicians. The concert was conceptualized by Durga Jasraj, former TV host and daughter of Pandit Jasraj, as a charity show to support education of children in India.
