This is perhaps the first for any debutant as well as a production house as big as Yash Raj Films. For Arjun Kapoor, son of prolific producer Boney Kapoor, Virus Diwan was the film that was supposed to be his launch pad. However, things changed drastically over last six months, hence leading to another project being designed for him, which has been named Ishaqzaade.
"When Virus Diwan was announced at the beginning of 2011, it was going to be a relatively humble launch for Arjun. The film was being made under the banner of Y-Films, a new youth segment of Yash Raj Films. Others films that were slated to arrive under the same banner were Luv Ka The End and Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, both of which starred newcomers", informs an industry source, "In fact there were photo sessions also done while publicity material of Virus Diwan too was released."
Meant to be a fun film centred on cyber crime, Virus Diwan was always meant to be an unconventional launch for Arjun. However, with Aditya Chopra backing the project, there was confidence in the Kapoor household that the film would do wonders for him. In fact release date of 30th December was also announced and it seemed like all was well.
"However when Y-Films' debut outing Luv Ka The End released, it didn't do really well", the source continues, "This was the time when rumours started spreading around Virus Diwan and Arjun's launch. The news spread that Virus Diwan was all set to be shelved and an altogether different film was being planned for Arjun that would be much safer and better pitched amongst the audience."
This was the time when Ashish Patil of 'Y-Films' had out-rightly denied the rumour stating that the film was pretty much on track. However, he had pronto declared that though the film would be eventually made, it would be pushed ahead and there were no more plans for 30th December arrival. Writing was clear on the wall and buzz had started making the round that Arjun would now be launched in a much bigger way with the reins moving to Yash Raj Films instead of Y-Films.
"It has worked as a blessing in disguise for Arjun because though he would now have to wait for a little longer (Ishaqzaade would arrive in May next year), he would find a much wider market placement for himself", says a trade veteran, "The First Look of Ishaqzaade is out and looks like Yash Raj's decision to give Arjun a rustic debut instead of following the cool dude persona has worked in everyone's favour," says source.
Touted to be a film about 'the turbulent journey of the two lovers that unfolds in the often unrealistic and daunting political confines of rural India', Ishaqzaade would see Parineeti Chopra (who would be first seen in Ladies v/s Ricky Bahl opposite Ranveer Singh) as Arjun's leading lady. The film would be directed by Habib Faisal of Do Dooni Chaar fame.
