In his last release Brothers, Akshay Kumar, who turned 48 on September 9, sported grey stubble to look like a 45-year boxer. However for his next film Housefull 3, he shaves off the beard to look 15 years younger.
Says a source, “Akshay has begun experimenting with his looks. His fans like him clean-shaven, as he looks far younger without a beard. At the same time Akshay needs an older look when he’s playing his age. In Brothers and his forthcoming Airlift he plays a 45-plus character. Hence the grey beard. But In Housefull 3 he plays a much younger man. So off goes the beard.”
The actual age of our A-lister heroes has become a matter of some humour in our films. In Drishyam Ajay Devgn plays the father of two daughters, one a grown up college-going girl. But he is shown to be much younger than his counterparts Mohan Lal and Kamal Haasan in the Malayalam and Tamil versions of the film and in fact director Nishikant digressed from the remake to make the grownup daughter Devgn’s an adopted child so that his biological age remains ambiguous to the audience.
Aamir Khan plays a much younger man than his actual age in all his recent films.
