When his Bhabi (Chanda Bai) humiliates Swaroop (Shyam) and asks him to leave, he re-locates to Narhobad, quite dramatically meets with Mala (Suraiya) and gets a job with her father, Chaudhary Biharilal, tending their fields. Both continue to meet, he plays the flute and she sings and dances, and both fall in love - much to the displeasure of Mama Popat, who informs her father, has Shyam arrested, and forcibly gets Mala married to Jyotiprasad.
