Chris Evans extends his Guinness World Record with most appearances as Marvel superhero after Deadpool & Wolverine cameo

In a jaw-dropping twist that sent shockwaves through the Marvel fandom, Chris Evans made a surprise cameo appearance in the newly released Deadpool & Wolverine starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. The actor, best known for his iconic portrayal of Captain America, reprised his earlier role as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch, a character he played in the 2005 Fantastic Four and its 2007 sequel.

This unexpected return marks Evans’ eleventh appearance as a Marvel superhero, solidifying his position as the actor with the most feature film appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and creating a Guinness World Record. While he gained immense popularity as the Star-spangled Avenger, his earlier role as the fiery member of the Fantastic Four has taken on a new life thanks to this surprise cameo.

 

Chris Evans' involvement in the film was kept tightly under wraps until the massive Comic-Con 2024 panel where he joined a star-studded lineup, including Jennifer Garner, Wesley Snipes, Dafne Keen, and Channing Tatum. The actor admitted to being thrilled when Ryan Reynolds reached out about the opportunity. “Ryan's a buddy,” Evans said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly. “He just shot me a text saying, 'Listen, might be a long shot, but would you have any interest in reprising something from 20 years ago?' I said, 'Oh my God! Of course.'”

 

Evans praised Reynolds' ability to elevate any project with his unique brand of humour. “Ryan might be the only guy that I would've done it for because he's just got the Midas touch,” he continued. “His self-awareness makes him almost invincible. He makes the joke before the audience gets a chance to make the joke, so if you're going to revisit a character and you have to find a way to make it work, Ryan's humour makes just about everything work, so you feel an automatic sense of safety.”

 

The cameo itself is a clever meta-commentary on the multiverse concept. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Deadpool is on a desperate quest to find a replacement Wolverine to save his dying reality. His journey leads him to the Void, a desolate realm where discarded beings reside. There, he encounters a figure resembling Captain America, only to discover it's actually the Human Torch. The unexpected twist, coupled with the comedic genius of Deadpool, makes for a truly unforgettable moment.
