Manoj Bajpayee is ecstatic for Bhaiyya Ji; says, “I enjoyed playing my larger-than-life character”

Manoj Bajpayee is exceedingly nervous about Bhaiyya Ji, his first attempt at doing something so kitschy and taali-maar. But it is a positive nervousness. “I have never done anything like this before. Of course I’ve played a rural hero in Ram Gopal Varma’s Shool. But that was in the realistic space. Bhaiyya Ji is my first out-and-out masala hero-giri film. This is the kind of massy hero that gets the ceetees and taalis,” says Manoj.

“The way Manoj has conducted himself on screen he is in full-on purdah-phaad mode. The fights are staged in the Rajinikanth/Chiranjeevi style. Manoj makes them look completely believable. He will have action fans screaming in their seats,” says the film’s director Apoorv Singh Karki.

 

Adds Manoj, “I have been promoting the film from city to city as we used to before Covid. The response is very encouraging. Let’s pray the crowds at the promotions translate into footfalls. I don’t know how the film will eventually fare. But I enjoyed playing my larger-than-life character. I have played the underdog in so many films. It’s time I played a hero of the kind we all have grown up watching.”
