Manisha Koirala reveals she regrets refusing a Yash Chopra film starring Madhuri Dixit and how she made up for it

Manisha Koirala is excited for the upcoming period drama series Heeramandi, starring Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In the series, which is set in India in the 1940s before independence, the actress plays the lead role. In an interview with India Today, Manisha talked about her worst regret of turning down a Yash Chopra movie.

In an interview with the portal, Manisha revealed that she declined the offer from the renowned director because it had Madhuri Dixit in the film. She expressed sadness about not doing Yash Chopra's film, saying it was one of her career regrets. When Madhuri ji (Dixit) was matched against me, I became anxious. I pulled out of the undertaking.

 

However, years later, Manisha collaborated with Madhuri on Rajkumar Santoshi’s Lajja. She stated, “Madhuri ji is such a wonderful person and actress. There was no reason for me to be insecure. I believe that having a strong actor in front of you only improves your performance. They encourage you to do better. That stems from age and experience. I enjoyed working with Madhuri ji on that (film). I enjoyed working with Rekha ji as well.” It seemed that Manisha is referring to Yash Chopra's Dil To Pagal Hai. The role was offered to numerous

 

Bollywood celebrities throughout the 1990s. However, Karisma Kapoor ended up playing Nisha. Her musical duet with Madhuri, titled ‘The Dance of Envy’, gained popularity among fans. Before Karisma, Urmila Matondkar, Kajol, Raveen Tandon and Juhi Chawla also backed out of the project.

 

Manisha plays Mallikajaan, a courtesan from Lahore in Heeramandi. The 1940s series depicts India prior to partition. The anticipated magnum opus tells the story of courtesans' relationships with Nawabs (Mughal Empire governors) and British officers. Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, and Sharmin Segal appear in Heeramandi as well.
