EXCLUSIVE: Rashami Desai says, “I feel more powerful with my fans beside me”; opens up about Tamas and Naagin 4

Rashami Desai is one of the finest and most sought after actresses of Indian television and has made her way to the top with sheer hard work and talent. Her recent short film, Tamas, with Adhvik Mahajan, went viral in no time as it had a very important social message. Even though Rashami appears towards the end of the film, she was addressed as the hero of it by Adhvik. Currently, busy shooting for Naagin 4 finale, Rashami Desai has had quite the year since Bigg Boss 13 and her fans are eagerly waiting to see what more she has in store. Taking time out from her schedule, in an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Hungama, the sensational Rashami Desai spoke about Tamas, Naagin 4, and adjusting to the new normal while on sets.

We asked her what her initial reaction to the script of Tamas was and she said, “It was a normal reaction since it was a short film, I thought execution should be better. But, when I saw the final product, it was much better than I had expected. Adhvik’s wife is a good friend of mine and he just knew me as an actor. So when he approached with the script, he clearly told me to do it if I’m impressed with the script and not because he’s a friend. He also clarified that he won’t be able to pay me the remuneration I charge as a professional since he was making this film with favours from his friends and the money made out of it would be donated to charity. So, I really liked that about him.”

 

She further said, “When I shot with him, that was also a tricky experience, but when I saw the final product, I loved it. When an actor takes an initiative like this, where he’s new to being on the other side of the camera, it shows that he has got that passion of making films.” When asked about shooting with a phone camera for the first time, she said, “I did not feel like I’m shooting, I felt like this is one of those Instagram videos that I post. But when I wore the attire, he made take almost 10 takes because he wanted it to be perfect. I really enjoyed working with him.”

 

When asked about Naagin 4 and being on the sets with the threat of Coronavirus lingering, Rashami said, “It’s definitely not easy, you’re risking your life and you’re dealing with a major threat. Now, we’re not scared of being mugged or murdered, but we’re more scared of Coronavirus. Initially, we were joking about it that someone might just enter my vanity and kill me, no one would even find out. But then on the third day of the shoot, we realized that this is not something we can make fun of and we started taking it seriously. So, I’ve started carrying my own thermometer, oximeter, and a blood pressure machine. I ensure to keep myself sanitized during the day. Because, it’s not just about me, it’s about me being responsible for others, too. I don’t want to take the risk, it’s very scary.”

 

Speaking about playing Shalakha in Naagin 4, Rashami says, “I hope the viewers like my character. It’s definitely not easy playing this role especially because Naagin is a huge franchise. Plus, the platform has a lot of actors, so if you’re suddenly making an entry you have to give your 1000%. The role is different from my previous ones because it’s not a goody-two-shoes character. So, as an actress, I’m enjoying this and I hope the audience does, too.”

 

Concluding our conversation, Rashami Desai gave a message to her fans, saying, “I feel more powerful after having my fans in my life and I just want to say that thank you so much for loving me. Keep showering your love and I hope that I can entertain you with all my heart and acting skills. I’ll ensure to make you guys a part of it because, gradually, Indian television is making a mark on international audiences too. When I started my career, it was only pan-India and today, a lot of people have been appreciating us. So, I hope they support me and love me like this.”
