Boney Kapoor to host star-studded 75th birthday bash for Shabana Azmi

Veteran Bollywood producer Boney Kapoor is set to host a grand birthday celebration for legendary actress Shabana Azmi, who turns 75 on September 18. The event will take place at Kapoor’s residence in Bandra’s upscale Pali Hill area, bringing together a host of industry stalwarts.

The guest list includes Azmi’s close family members—husband Javed Akhtar, children Zoya and Farhan Akhtar, and brother Baba Azmi—as well as her friends from both the film and theatre worlds. Notable attendees are expected to include Vidya Balan, Urmila Matondkar, Richa Chadha, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Anil Kapoor, Karan Johar, and Farah Khan, among others.

 

The long-standing friendship between Kapoor and Azmi dates back to 1980, when they collaborated on Kapoor’s first production, Hum Paanch. A source close to the family shared, “They struck up a friendship then, and over the years, have become almost family. So, when the discussion about celebrating Shabana’s birthday came up, Boney said he would host it.” The source added that the celebration will feature Azmi’s friends from both the film and theatre communities.

 

Leading up to the main event, Azmi’s close-knit group of friends, known as “Dher Saara Pyaar,” will gather for a spa day on September 17. The group includes Tanvi Azmi, Vidya Balan, Urmila Matondkar, Richa Chadha, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Divya Dutta, Dia Mirza, and Konkona Sensharma. Their celebrations began over the weekend with the launch of Sandhya Mridul’s poetry book, ‘Untamed’, followed by a dinner. The group is also eager to reunite with Azmi’s other circle of friends, “Carpe Diem,” with whom she recently travelled to Iceland.

 

This milestone birthday marks a significant moment in Azmi’s illustrious career, and Kapoor’s gesture underscores the deep bond they share.
