Anurag Kashyap recalls his battle with alcoholism; Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Taapsee Pannu would check in on him: “Anubhav Sinha and my daughter Aaliyah got together and threw away the bottles”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has opened up about his struggles with depression and alcoholism, highlighting the importance of support systems in overcoming such challenges. Kashyap revealed how his daughter, Aaliyah, and his close friends from the film industry played a crucial role in his recovery. Kashyap's daughter, Aaliyah Kashyap encouraged him to seek professional help. This push towards therapy proved to be a turning point in his battle.

Beyond his daughter's support, Kashyap found solace in the unwavering friendship of his film industry colleagues. Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha and his daughter Aaliyah took a proactive step by physically removing alcohol from Kashyap's possession.

 

Nawazuddin Siddiqui regularly checked in with Kashyap, offering words of encouragement and practical assistance. Taapsee Pannu's straightforward approach, “Zinda Ho” (Are you alive?). In an interview with Zoom, Kashyap revealed, “Nawazuddin Siddiqui regularly messages me enquiring about my health, ‘Bhai aapki health theek hai? Kuch chahiye toh nahin?’ (Brother, are you fine? Do you need anything?)" Taapsee Pannu calls me and asks, ‘Zinda Ho Kaise chal raha hai? Health kaisa hai?’ (Are you alive? How are things going on? How is your health?)”

 

"Anubhav Sinha is incredible for the way he keeps a check on me. He is always checking on me, how much I am smoking or drinking. Once he came, he and my daughter got together and threw away all the (alcohol) bottles," he said.

 

He continued, “Sudhir Mishra, he went out of his way to book me into a place to fix me. There are people in my life who I am grateful for. (Vikramaditya) Motwane, Ishika, is always concerned and wanting to make sure I am fixed.”

 

Meanwhile, Anurag Kashyap will be seen in Disney+ Hotstar’s Bad Cop and Tamil thriller Maharaja led by Vijay Sethupathi.
