'DEEWAANAPAN' SCORES OVER OTHER NEW RELEASES!

By Bollywood Hungama -

The film industry is still thirsting for a universal hit!

I've always insisted that simultaneous downpour of new releases, even during the festival period, can spell doom. That's what happened last week.

'DEEWAANAPAN' SCORES OVER OTHER NEW RELEASES!

The Diwali week witnessed the clash of four films – DEEWAANAPAN, TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN, YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR and ABHAY – but none of them could be classified a universal hit, although DEEWAANAPAN is faring well in some pockets of the country.

The scenario in the film industry is gloomy. Actually, this has been the gloomiest Diwali in recent times.

Let's have a look at how the four films fared on an all-India basis. An exclusive mid-week report by IndiaFM.

MUMBAI

DEEWAANAPAN: The opening was good at several cinema halls, but the collections started declining from Saturday/Sunday onwards. The film is faring quite well in Gujarat and Saurashtra.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: The opening was below the mark at several cinema halls of the city. The collections in Gujarat and Saurashtra were good on the first day, but a drop was noticed from the second day itself.

YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR: The opening was dull and the collections on the subsequent days continued to be lukewarm.

ABHAY: Although the film took a good start in the city, the reports are not encouraging at all. A drop in the collections was visible subsequently.

PUNJAB

DEEWAANAPAN: It had the best opening when compared to the other new releases. At Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Bhatinda, Kotkapura, Amritsar and other centres, the collections are rock steady.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: The opening at Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Panchkula and several other key stations was below expectations. Labelled a film for the gentry, the response is not up to the mark.

YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR: Too many releases this week made a dent in the business of this film. The film did not manage theatres at some centres and at those where it was released, the opening was weak. The film has not been appreciated.

DELHI – UTTAR PRADESH

DEEWAANAPAN: The film took a flying start but started declining as days progressed. Vashu Bhagnani and the lead artistes of the film – Arjun Rampal and Diya Mirza – visited cinema halls in the city, which did boost the collections to an extent. In Uttar Pradesh, the collections are better.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: The opening was poor and the collections continue to be dull.

YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR: The opening was below the mark. A few people were of the opinion that the film would pick up gradually, but the collections in Delhi city as well as at key stations of Uttar Pradesh are below average.

C.I. (parts of Madhya Pradesh):

DEEWAANAPAN: The film had the best opening in Indore.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: This film had a weak opening in Indore.

YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR: The opening in Indore was disastrous. The collections have been very poor.

BIHAR

DEEWAANAPAN: The opening was so-so, but the reports are not up to the mark.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: The opening in Patna was around 50 to 60%. Even at Ranchi and Dhanbad, the collections are below the mark.

RAJASTHAN

DEEWAANAPAN: The film opened to packed houses in Jaipur, but the collections have started sliding downwards.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: The opening was alright, but a 30% drop was noticed on the second day itself in Jaipur. In Jodhpur too, the opening was quite good, but a fall in collections was noticed on the very next day.

YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR: The opening in Jaipur was far from satisfactory, although it opened to a decent response in Jodhpur. The reports are far from positive and the film is not likely to sustain in this circuit.

ABHAY: The opening in Jaipur was better, but the reports are below the mark. As a result, the collections have dropped after a decent start.

C.P. BERAR (parts of Maharashtra & Madhya Pradesh)

DEEWAANAPAN: The opening was not up to the mark in Nagpur. However, the collections are better in Amravati. The youth are patronising the film.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: The opening was dull in Nagpur and Amravati.

YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR: Had a poor start in Amravati.

ABHAY: The film took a satisfactory start in Nagpur, although the reports are weak. At Amravati, the collections are quite nice. It may settle down in the average category in this circuit.

KOLKATA

DEEWAANAPAN: The opening was better when compared to all the releases of the week.

TERA MERA SAATH RAHEN: Took a dull start in the city.

YEH ZINDAGI KA SAFAR: The opening was far from satisfactory and the collections are weak.
