Music companies in a rat race:
It's a rat race for bagging the music rights of the top banner movies. Tips, T-Series, Sony & HMV are trying to capture the numero uno position, but chances are that no single company will be able to make it to the top. The rankings will keep on changing depending upon the rights which they bag. To start with, Tips got a major boost when they landed up with the domestic rights of Subhash Ghai's Yaadein for a whopping Rs. 6.5 crores. HMV followed it up with Mohabbatein by paying Rs. 8 crores to Yash Chopra. And if the audio is anything to go by, analysts are sure that HMV would be making a loss with this since the audio has turned out to be a major disappointment. The producer who has raked in the highest money from a music company is Karan Johar. Sony Music has procured the music rights of Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum for Rs. 13 crores, but that includes the international rights. Sony Music has also paid a high price for Aamir Khan's Lagaan (Rs. 7 crores) and Dil Chaahta Hai (Rs. 10 crores) Going with the figures above, we can say that music is the most important factor to market a film, right ?
