Actor Vardhaan Puri has shared his response to the Hollywood horror film Obsession, following similar public reactions from Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday.

Speaking about the film, Puri said, “The film industry has been hit by a storm and that storm is called Obsession. I’ve always been a great advocate of horror as a genre. It’s the most exciting, rewarding and profitable genre among all genres. What makes this film even more remarkable is that it has been made by a 26-year-old filmmaker who started creating stories at a very young age. It proves that it’s never about budgets or scale, it’s about the concept, conviction and belief you have in your story.”

On the theatrical experience, Puri said, “Watching Obsession in a packed theatre in Mumbai was incredible. Everyone was feeling the same emotions together. In moments of fear, there was nervous laughter across the auditorium and people left the theatre with a sense of unity, as a communion. That’s the power cinema has.”

Puri also addressed the wider conversation around theatrical attendance. “People saying audiences don’t come to theatres anymore is simply not true. They have become more selective about the quality of content they consume. If you give them good content, they will show up.”

He added, “2026 has been the most positive year for cinema since 2019 and people have been coming back to theatres. May 2026, in terms of footfalls globally, has been amazing and that has happened due to fantastic horror genre cinema.”

Puri concluded by noting his own work in the genre. “I’m already working on something crazy, wild and horror-centric myself. The success of Obsession has reinforced my belief that horror is one of the most rewarding genres. I’m happy to invest my energy in great stories and characters, and I hope more producers recognize the immense potential of horror storytelling.”

Vardhaan Puri built his versatility by starting as a Yash Raj Films assistant director on Ishaqzaade before debuting as an actor-writer in the thriller Yeh Saali Aashiqui (2019). He has since expanded across genres with roles in the drama Dashmi (2024), the horror film Bloody Ishq (2024), and the romance Bobby Aur Rishi Ki Love Story (2025).
