The passing of veteran producer and former CBFC chairman Pahlaj Nihalani has left the Hindi film industry in mourning, with several actors and filmmakers remembering his contribution to Indian cinema. Joining the list of celebrities paying tribute is Govinda, who shared an emotional message recalling Nihalani’s role in supporting artists during the formative years of their careers.
Reflecting on his association with the late producer, Govinda described him as a pillar of support for many individuals who entered the film industry with limited resources and big dreams. "Pahlaj Nihalani Ji served as a cornerstone for us. For me and for many other artists who rose above the struggles of poverty, he provided invaluable support, enabling us to establish ourselves as artists within the country...I pray that God grants peace to his soul. There are many artists like us who have achieved global fame today; our success is a direct result of the blessings of such noble individuals...", he said.
The actor’s words highlight the impact Nihalani had on several careers over the decades. Known for backing mainstream entertainers, the producer worked with some of the biggest names in Hindi cinema and earned a reputation for identifying talent and supporting artists at crucial stages of their professional journeys.

Pahlaj Nihalani was one of the prominent producers of commercial Hindi cinema during the 1980s and 1990s. Over the years, he produced several successful films and became a well-known figure in the industry. Beyond his work as a producer, he also served as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) from January 2015 to August 2017, a tenure that frequently kept him in the spotlight due to discussions surrounding film certification and censorship.
Nihalani passed away at the age of 76 at his residence in Mumbai. Producer Shashi Ranjan had earlier revealed that he had been unwell for some time and was brought home from Nanavati Hospital before his demise. According to a statement released by the family, his last rites were held at the Santacruz Hindu Crematorium in Mumbai.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the film fraternity, Govinda’s heartfelt remembrance serves as yet another testament to the influence Pahlaj Nihalani had on generations of artists. For many in the industry, he was not only a producer but also a mentor and supporter whose contributions extended far beyond the films he made.
