Dolph Lundgren, who starred as He-Man in the original 1987 film, attended the world premiere of Masters of the Universe at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, where he met new He-Man Nicholas Galitzine and symbolically passed the Power Sword to him on the red carpet in a moment that quickly went viral.
Speaking on the red carpet, Lundgren praised Galitzine’s casting and what it takes to carry the iconic role. “You need a guy who is a leading-man type, and the muscles and the strength are secondary. You can always create that, and I think Nicholas did that, he built himself up. When I did that, it was a little more like I had the physique and had to access my boyish side to find the character,” he said.
On passing the sword to Galitzine, Lundgren added, “It was a great feeling for me. I was really honoured to be part of it.”
Lundgren will also appear in the film in a cameo role, playing a mentor figure who meets Galitzine’s Prince Adam on Earth, making the red carpet moment all the more significant for fans of the original.
Directed by Travis Knight, Masters of the Universe stars Nicholas Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, Camila Mendes as Teela, Jared Leto as Skeletor, and Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-At-Arms. The cast also includes Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, and Kristen Wiig, who voices Roboto. The film is a production of Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Films.
Sony Pictures Releasing International brings He-Man and the Masters of the Universe to Indian theatres on June 5, 2026, in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam.
