Shweta Tripathi and husband Chaitnya Sharma to play an on-stage couple for the first time in Akarsh Khurana’s External Affairs

en Bollywood News Shweta Tripathi and husband Chaitnya Sharma to play an on-stage couple for the first time in Akarsh Khurana’s External Affairs

Years after meeting during theatre rehearsals, the couple reunites on stage as romantic leads in the upcoming play directed by Akarsh Khurana.

Shweta Tripathi and her husband Chaitnya Sharma are all set to share the stage together for the first time as a romantic pair in director Akarsh Khurana’s upcoming play External Affairs. The project marks a special milestone for the couple, whose relationship itself began years ago in a rehearsal room during their theatre days.

Interestingly, Akarsh Khurana, who directed them back then, is once again at the helm of this production, making the reunion even more meaningful for the actors. While Shweta and Chaitnya have individually remained connected to theatre and screen projects over the years, this will be the first time audiences will see them portray a romantic couple on stage after becoming life partners in real life.

Speaking about returning to theatre, Shweta Tripathi reflected on how deeply the medium has shaped her as an actor and performer. “Theatre is where I learnt how to listen, how to respond, how to just be. There’s no filter, no second take just you and the moment. Theatre isn’t just where my journey began; it’s where my imagination first learned how to fly,” she shared.

The actress also spoke about the unique experience of live performances in today’s fast-paced digital world. “Today, we’re all so distracted, always looking at our phones or thinking about what’s next. But in a theatre, something shifts. You’re fully present. You’re listening, feeling, reacting together. It’s rare, and it’s beautiful.”

Opening up about sharing the stage with her husband for the first time as romantic leads, Shweta added, “Chaitnya and I are coming back to where we first met, with Akarsh, and for the first time, we’re playing a romantic couple. It’s exciting and beautiful personal partners now are professional partners as well.”

The announcement has already generated excitement among theatre enthusiasts and fans of the actors, especially because of the personal history attached to the production. The play is expected to blend emotional storytelling with the intimacy of live theatre, while also marking a full-circle moment in Shweta and Chaitnya’s relationship journey.

Over the years, Shweta Tripathi has often spoken about her strong connection with theatre despite her growing presence in films and OTT projects. With External Affairs, the actor now returns to the stage for a project that is both professionally significant and personally emotional.
