Bollywood Hungama was the first to report that the advance booking of Ek Din opened 39 days before its release. It was also a pleasant surprise that, as of April 11, nearly 520 tickets of the romantic drama had already been sold. Produced by Aamir Khan, the Junaid Khan-Sai Pallavi starrer will be released in cinemas by PVR INOX Pictures this Friday, on May 1. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, its Executive Director, Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, opened up about this fascinating strategy.
Sanjeev Kumar Bijli said, “When one is confident about a film, it’s something that we are happy to do – open the advances sooner and then capitalize on it. In this business, we keep trying different things. That’s the whole excitement of doing things differently and in different ways. And Aamir is always known to be someone who does things innovatively.”
Not many are aware that Sanjeev Kumar Bijli and Ajay Bijli were the co-producers of Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na (2008), both of which were also produced by Aamir Khan. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama in March 2025, Sanjeev Kumar Bijli spoke about his bond with Aamir Khan over the years. He said, “We were fortunate to work on those two films as producers with him. He still remains not just one of the best actors in the industry but also a thought leader. Through his movies like Dangal (2016), 3 Idiots (2009), etc., he has pushed the envelope not just in terms of the films’ content but also in terms of promotions and marketing. Hence, it’s great to know him and be associated with him.”
PVR INOX Pictures also released Aamir Khan’s acclaimed 2025 film, Sitaare Zameen Par. The wacky comedy Happy Patel Khatarnak Jasoos (2026) was also a PVR INOX release. When asked if the company would also distribute Aamir Khan Productions’ much-awaited next, Lahore 1947, starring Sunny Deol, Sanjeev Kumar Bijli replied, “We don’t know yet. Let’s see. Fingers crossed (smiles).”
