Actor Rakesh Bedi recently recalled working without any payment on the 1982 film Saath Saath, reflecting on a time when actors often took up projects without financial compensation during the early stages of their careers. Speaking on Farah Khan’s YouTube channel, Bedi spoke about an era when, according to him, “nobody used to pay” actors. He said, “Tab zamana alag tha,” adding, “The only picture jaha mujhe ek naya paisa nahi mila.”

The actor further revealed that he did not receive even basic travel expenses during the shoot. Rakesh shared, “Conveyance ka bhi nahi mila (money), kyunki khana bhi kayi baar ghar se le kar jata tha (I did not even get paid for conveyance. In fact, many times I used to take food from home).”
Bedi’s candid remarks offered a glimpse into the working conditions of that period, when many performers accepted projects primarily for exposure and experience rather than remuneration.
During the conversation, Farah Khan also spoke about her long-standing friendship with Bedi, which dates back to her teenage years when she was around 14–15 and he was about 24–25. Recalling those days from her cooking show interactions, she said, “FTII se yeh log Javed uncle aur Honey aunty ke ghar free ka khana aur free ki daaru peene jate the.” She added that she met several actors during that time, including Farooq Sheikh, Neena Gupta, Supriya Pathak, and Satish Shah, saying, “Hamari purani dosti hai.”
In recent months, Bedi has also been drawing attention for his role as Jamal Jamali, which introduced him to a younger audience segment.
