Director Nitesh Tiwari recently opened up about casting Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram in the upcoming epic Ramayana during a special interaction in New York City following the unveiling of the film’s first glimpse in Los Angeles. The filmmaker spoke about the creative reasoning behind the casting decision and the responsibility of bringing one of India’s most revered figures to the big screen.

The event formed part of the international rollout of the film’s first glimpse presentation, where Tiwari and Ranbir Kapoor interacted with audiences and discussed the scale, intent and message behind the project.
Why Ranbir Kapoor was chosen to play Lord Ram
During the conversation, Tiwari explained that the role of Lord Ram required emotional restraint, spiritual depth and physical strength. He said these qualities made Ranbir Kapoor the natural choice for the part.
Speaking at the event, Tiwari said, “Lord Ram was a man of few words. His love was unbound. His pain could not be seen but it could be felt. His courage needed a lot of physicality. This role was really demanding and so we felt that there was nobody better than Ranbir Kapoor to portray all these things and manage the expectations of a billion people.”
