The comparison between Dhurandhar and Dhurandhar The Revenge is not just about which film collected more. It is about how a franchise graduated from success to event cinema.
Start with the most obvious number. Dhurandhar earned Rs. 218 crore in 7 days. Dhurandhar The Revenge has already grossed Rs. 649 crore in 8 days, including Rs. 50 crore in previews. Even without previews, the sequel’s first 7 days stand at Rs. 550 crores, more than 2.5 times the original’s Week 1.
Then comes the opening day difference. Dhurandhar opened at Rs. 28.60 crore. The sequel opened at Rs. 90 crore on Day 1, or Rs. 140 crore if previews are counted. That means the sequel’s previews plus opening day alone are comfortably ahead of the original’s first four days combined.
The weekend comparison is equally savage. The original earned Rs. 106.50 crore from Friday to Sunday. The sequel grossed Rs. 393 crore in its first four regular days. Its Sunday alone, at Rs. 113 crore, is bigger than the original’s entire opening weekend.
But numbers become truly meaningful when they reveal behaviour. Dhurandhar behaved like a film with strong word of mouth. It dipped on Monday and then stabilized beautifully with Rs. 28.60 crore, Rs. 29.20 crore and Rs. 29.40 crore from Tuesday to Thursday. That trend showed that the film had found acceptance.
The sequel, meanwhile, has shown something even rarer: a huge event-film opening followed by numbers that still remain colossal on weekdays. From Monday to Thursday, Dhurandhar The Revenge collected Rs. 206 crore. That is just Rs. 12 crore less than the original’s full first week.
And then there is the killer indicator: Day 8 at Rs. 49 crore. The original’s biggest day was its Sunday at Rs. 44.80 crore. The sequel, on its second Thursday, is still collecting more than that. That tells you this is not merely a sequel cashing in on hype. It is a sequel that the audience has endorsed after watching it.
So what do the numbers really say? They say Dhurandhar created affection. Dhurandhar The Revenge has converted that affection into frenzy. The first film proved there was a franchise. The second has proved that the franchise now belongs to the top tier of theatrical Hindi cinema.
Dhurandhar built the base brick by brick. Dhurandhar The Revenge has turned that base into a fortress. The first film built the throne. The second one has claimed the kingdom.
