Music composer and singer Palaash Muchhal has been accused of cheating a man from Maharashtra’s Sangli district of ₹40 lakh, according to a complaint submitted to the police. The allegation comes weeks after Muchhal made headlines for calling off his wedding with Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana.
As per a report by PTI, a 34-year-old actor and producer, Vidnyan Mane, approached the Sangli Superintendent of Police seeking the registration of an FIR. Mane alleged that Muchhal cheated him by taking money under the pretext of investing in an upcoming film project.
According to the complaint, Mane first met Muchhal in Sangli on December 5, 2023. Muchhal reportedly expressed interest in Mane’s film project titled Nazaria and allegedly proposed to come on board as a producer. Mane claimed that Muchhal assured him of a profit of ₹12 lakh on an investment of ₹25 lakh after the film’s OTT release and also offered him a role in the project.
The two reportedly met on two more occasions, following which Mane stated that he transferred a total of ₹40 lakh to Muchhal by March 2025. However, the film was allegedly not completed, and Mane claimed that his repeated requests for the return of the money went unanswered.
Following this, Mane submitted a written complaint to the police. Officials have confirmed that a preliminary inquiry is currently underway. As of now, Palaash Muchhal has not issued any public statement in response to the allegations.
The complaint comes shortly after Muchhal’s much-discussed separation from Smriti Mandhana. The couple’s wedding, scheduled for November 23, was postponed after Mandhana’s father was hospitalised due to a heart condition. Subsequently, Muchhal announced that the relationship had ended.
In a statement shared earlier, Muchhal said he had decided to “move on” and urged people not to engage in speculation or unverified rumours surrounding his personal life.
Palaash Muchhal is known for composing songs such as Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui, Nachle Tu, Naach Basanti, Teri Ek Hassi, Musafir, and Khuda Ke Banday. He has also directed films including Ardh and Kaam Chalu Hai.
Further developments in the case are awaited as the police inquiry continues.
