Actor Varun Tej attempted something he hadn’t done before for his next flick Matka. This much-anticipated movie directed by Karuna Kumar and produced by Dr Vijender Reddy Teegala and Rajani Thalluri under Vyra Entertainments and SRT Entertainment banners chronicles the journey of an ordinary man who rises to become a Matka King.
The teaser highlights the protagonist's transformation, inspired by a jailer's words during his time in prison. Vasu resolves to join the elite one percent who control 90% of the wealth, rejecting a life of struggle for the remaining 10%. Driven by ambition and an understanding of human greed, he sets out to achieve success in a ruthless world, where the desire for wealth fuels his burgeoning business.
Varun Tej faces an arduous challenge in Matka, stepping out of his comfort zone with four distinct makeovers that portray the character's journey from youth to old age. His ability to adapt his body language and dialogue delivery is impressive. He exudes vitality as a young man in his teens and twenties, while his transformation into a middle-aged figure is strikingly unrecognizable. Nostalgia hits hard with the inclusion of Poorna Theatre and the iconic cutout of the Legendary NTR during a key fight scene. The old-age look is particularly noteworthy.
The teaser also introduces a stellar supporting cast, including Nora Fatehi, Meenakshi Chaudhry, and Naveen Chandra. Karuna Kumar showcases his potential by adeptly handling a mass commercial subject for the first time. His storytelling is commendable, complemented by punchy and impactful dialogues. The period setting feels authentic, thanks to the director's vision and the dedicated efforts of the production team.
Cinematographer A Kishor Kumar has masterfully captured the distinct timelines with his praiseworthy blocks, whereas GV Prakash Kumar elevated the heroism and narrative with his thumping score. Editor Karthika Srinivas R also deserves special mention for the sharp cuts. The grand production standards of Vyra Entertainments, SRT Entertainment are witnessed all through.
Matka is set to release on November 14th.
