Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan starred in Piku and the audience loved them. Now, fans can rejoice as the Piku duo is all set to reunite for Vishal Bhardwaj’s untitled next project. The film will be helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj’s longtime associate Honey Trehan. The film will be co-produced by Prerna Arora and Arjun N Kapoor.
Coming to the role, Deepika Padukone will be portraying the character of a mafia queen named Rahima Khan who was popularly known as Sapna Didi in the 80s. Irrfan Khan, on the other hand, will be portraying character of a local gangster who is in love with Rahima Khan. The duo then will join hands in Rahima’s mission to kill Dawood Ibrahim.
According to a source close to the project, when Deepika Padukone heard the script, she loved the idea of mafia queen from the ’80s. The source informed that Sapna Didi had planned Dawood’s execution during a cricket match in Sharjah to avenge her husband’s death. Unfortunately for Sapna Didi, Dawood Ibrahim had got the wind of her plans and killed her days before she could get to him.
The untitled film is based on one of the chapters from journalist turned- author S Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Vishal Bhardwaj has purchased the rights to the chapter for the film. Speaking about collaborating with Deepika, Vishal said that Deepika had been asking him to write a script for her for a long time. She had heard this script and loved it. They are in an advance stage of discussion.
Talking about the director Honey Trehan, Vishal Bhardwaj said that Honey has been a part of his life since before he had made his first film. He is happy that he gets to launch him after Abhishek Chaubey. Vishal added that Honey will make a fine director. The film is expected to go on floors by the end of the year.
