“Main Jat Yamla Pagla Deewanaaaaâ€, a simple song made infamous in the movie Pratiggya by Dharm paaji, has once again exploded onto the bollywood scene, but this time tagging along for the ride are the sons, Sunny and Bobby, as well. With the movie riding on the shoulders of “punjab de puttarâ€, how can this movie not succeed. YPD is a celebration of Dharmedra’s 75th year as well as his past 30 years in cinema.
Plot: Paramvir Singh (Sunny Deol), an NRI living in Canada, looks to reunite with his long lost Father, Dharam (Dharmendra), and brother, Gajodhar (Bobby Deol). After Paramvir saves them from some local thugs in a bar, Dharam and Gajodhar decide to invite Paramvir into their time so that they could use his strength to make more money. Paramvir, wanting to be by his brother and father’s side, agrees to accompany them so that he can convince them to leave their life of crime and move back to Canada with him. Along the way Gajodhar falls in love with Saheba (Kulraj Randhawa), and in order to win his love, The family travels to “Sada Punjab†and help Gajodhar elope with Saheba before they are caught and beaten by Saheba’s brothers. Along the way the audience gets plenty of gut tickling comedy when the heroes make fun of their own scenes from their own previous movies. Combine this with over-the-top action that has become the trademark of the Deol family, and you get a good wholesome movie made by family for the family.
