3.5 Very Good

Vidya Balan is riding high on the success of her previous outing 'The Dirty Picture'. Her new venture Kahaani is an thriller drama set in Kolkata.
Kahaani has created quite a hype thanks to its exciting first trailer !
is Kahaani as arresting as its trailers depicted ? the answer is Yes !
Kahaani has an engaging story but thankfully it also does have an equally engaging screenplay ! the first half sets up beautifully for an interesting and an engaging second half and the second hour doesn't disappoint ! there are many twists and several shocking moments in the film and the credit goes to the writers to keep the viewer hooked till the last frame.the pre-climax wherein Vidya reveals her identity, will hit you like a jolt ! the film slows down a bit in the post interval portions but that doesn't affect the overall impact ! dialogues are superb.
background score is haunting ! music is alright.cinematography is superb.
Kolkata is captured beautifully ! Sujoy Ghosh's direction is first-rate. after a spate of forgetful films, he gets it right. Kahaani belongs to Vidya Balan.
the actor pitches in an award winning performance.she chooses her scripts very carefully and does full justice to her character every time ! novel performance. Parambrata Chattopadhayay is very natural ! Nawazuddin Siddiqui is terrfific ! Dhritiman Chatterjee is first-rate. Saswata Mukherjee is a revelation ! Indraneil Sengupta is good. the supporting cast is superb ! overall, Kahaani is one of the finest thrillers to come out of the hindi film industry !
